Raya Shopping

When you are not fasting and experience menstrual pain during the first week of Ramadan, the only thing you can do besides bed rest is to shop online! Hehe Actually it's been a year since I visited the online site (due to wedding planning and other things). So... lately I've started visiting some trading sites again and I forgot how therapeutic they are! I spent hours browsing the site! Haha I hope I'm not addicted like my younger brother . She is an internet shopaholic ! Laughter. Shop almost every week and window shop every day! ha ha ha ha Shop from our local brands/websites, USA, UK, Japan, Hong Kong or wherever you want to shop that day. I always go to him when I'm not sure about shipping or taxes, payment terms, etc. (I rarely buy online. I'm an old school girl who likes to touch and see things before I buy). So to me she is like an online shopping guru! Hehe anyway, last week I bought some things in heaven. And I've seen a lot of blues this year. I think that's our theme for the first days of Raya... maybe?

My mother always keeps the color theme for the family every Eid. So, I guess now that I'm married, my husband and I are in control of what to wear as a family! Oh, I'm glad! haha

Shades of brown, blue, yellow and black

Anyway, this year I don't think I'm going to do a royal dress like last year. To be honest, this is my first time buying a dress made by Raya Kurung. And I'm just so happy! Well...there are several reasons why I'm not making my own clothes, but just buying ready-to-wear collections for this holiday. And why...

  • First, I forgot to sew clothes 2-3 months before Ramadan like everyone else. So if you order clothes from any tailor in Kuala Lumpur one month before Eid al-Adha, it will be impossible to get a seat! I tried...it's hopeless! I mean right,..even the designer I thought could take my requests and orders! Apparently designer demand was high for Ray...Sob. (I also asked my husband to go to Jakarta without dressing up because everything in KL was fully booked. But his schedule didn't allow it.. T__T )

  • Second, I don't wear the baju kuning too often. We Malaysians call them abayas or jubas. So now that I'm married, I thought... I'd like to have my own collection of baju kunings instead of constantly borrowing from my mom! Hehe last time when I was single and living with him, I got a bajurung bracket from my mom most of the time because we are almost the same height and I don't have that many clothes for brackets! I am lucky that he is a big fan of Baju Kurung. So I have a choice! - Wear braces almost every day, don't mess around! So I always wear it when I go to a wedding or an Islamic function or whatever. So to kick off this Eid, I'm looking to collect a few items of my own and that means not shelling out RM2k for a piece of baju kuning if I want that to happen! Haha – I usually order between RM2K and RM4K to have my raya dress made by some amazing designer, but of course I only get 1 or 2 pieces (or if I'm lucky I get 3 or 4 daddy's modesty dresses! ^ __^ ). And the rest Hari Raya, as I said, I will borrow from my mother. So you don't have to make a lot of clothes! Haha but now that I have my own collection of baju kunings, I have to buy cheap ones and work my way up to tons of baju kunings like my mom! Hehe so no more ready-to-wear suits, only ready-to-wear suits! After all, I sometimes wear a baju kuning. (My husband said, "I'm so proud of you. You've changed and gotten smarter about shopping. I love it." Haha.

  • Third, because… I spent a lot of money on my wedding dress last year. In total I have about 9 wedding dresses! Although I won't mention the total amount spent here. This is embarrassing! Haha ;p And I still have 2 dresses that I can't wear to the wedding for some reason! God... I feel so sick just thinking about it. So... it would be a waste of money to make another dress because I could cut off the tail of the dress or something and wear it again. (But I didn't think for God's sake. No tailor will change my dress in such a short time! T__T )

  • And finally, since there are so many beautiful ready-to-wear clothes on the market today, you won't want to miss out!!! I prefer the Jovian Mandagie design. Simple but very elegant! Much to my taste! And most importantly, very affordable! I like that! ;)

Hmm... looking at my collection it seems I missed the green and pink-purple lore. Should I look for other clothes? Haha girls, how many baju Kurungs did you actually buy/produce for Raya?? two? four? Eight? Ten maybe? Hey share! And tell me which sites to visit for Eid! I want to explore!

.... and maybe buy! laugh out loud
